Donna Corrine (Newcomb) Aberasturi

 Donna Corrine Newcomb Aberasturi of Spokane, Washington, passed away peacefully with family at her side on January 15, 2019. Donna was born in Nebraska on October 19, 1934 to Anna Willamenia Tilse Newcomb and Ernest Fay Newcomb.   She is a 1953 graduate of John R. Rogers High School where she was a cheerleader and year book editor. She remained a loyal and active volunteer for the Rogers Booster and the Roger’s Alumni where she planned reunions and kept record of all the graduating classes data base. Her name can be found as one of those awarded on the Walk of Fame at Rogers. Donna kept in close touch with her many friends and acquaintances through her graduating class, meeting regularly for monthly luncheons.   She was a loyal employee of Snyder’s Bakery for 36 years, doing payroll until retirement. Donna was well known throughout her beloved City of Spokane for all of her dedication to volunteer work over the years. She volunteered for the Bemiss Booster Club and the Longfellow Cheerleader Program, and received the Golden Acorn Award for her work in the Longfellow PTA. Donna also volunteered for the Miss Spokane Pageant throughout the 1990’s, for Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery, and was a Director for the Spokane Lilac Festival Association for 25 years, most known for her inspiration for youth as a liaison for Rogers High School.   She is preceded in death by her siblings, Agnes Newcomb Lambert, Opal Maxine Newcomb Haglund, Stanley Fay Newcomb, Jack Eugene Newcomb, and Helen Marie Newcomb and by her daughter Mary Donna Aberasturi.   She is survived by her children Ramon Aberasturi of Rancho Cordova, CA, Rhonda Pederson of Puyallup, WA, Randy Aberasturi of Spokane, WA, her grandchildren Robin Brazill (Chad, husband) of Spokane Valley, WA, Michael Aberasturi (Shameem, wife) of Liberty Lake, WA, David Aberasturi-Haugvik (Tom, husband) of Towson, MD, Devin Pederson of Puyallup, WA, Arin Aberasturi, Dominix Aberasturi, and Jurdan Aberasturi of Rancho Cordova, CA, and nine great-grandchildren.   A memorial service will be held for Donna at Riplinger Funeral Home, 4305 N Division St, Spokane, WA 99207, at 10:00 AM, Friday January 25th with a reception following at the Eagles, 6410 N Lidgerwood St, Spokane, WA 99208.   The family welcomes those attending services to wear a form of purple to honor Donna.   Donations can be made in Donna’s name to the Rogers High School Scholarship Program, the Spokane Lilac Festival Association, or Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery.   Her family and friends mourn her loss deeply, but know that Heaven just became a little brighter.
