Donna C Holm

HOLM, Donna Carla (Beckman) –Entered into rest on May 6, 2018 in Spokane, WA. Born on May 29, 1933 in Portland, OR to parents, Carl A. Beckman (Sweden) and Pearl Carr (Olean, NY), Donna always had a wonderful singing voice and joined two dear friends in high school to form the “Harmonettes”.The “Harmonettes” were well received in their hometown and eventually had a weekly spot on radio station KGW every Saturday afternoon. Also, while attending Roosevelt High School (Class of 1951), Donna met a young man named ‘Bob’ (Alfred Robert) Holm at a barn dance. For Bob it was ‘love at first glance’. For Donna it took some convincing. Bob eventually won Donna’s love and they were married on March 29, 1952, on Bob’s 20th birthday, at Portland Air Force Base Chapel, Portland, OR. In May 1953, they were blessed with their only child, Donald Alfred. Bob made a career in the Air Force. This choice took Donna many miles from home and at times being a single parent to Donald while Bob was stationed first in Korea and later in Japan. A hard worker, Donna worked for the Civil Service Authority wherever Bob was stationed, starting in Glasgow, MT and retiring in 1992 in Spokane, after 30 years. She made the most of each new duty station the family was assigned to, making lifelong friends and “seeing the USA” with Bob and Donald in a series of campers and fifth-wheels. Donna belonged to many bowling leagues and was proud of her numerous trophies. She was a member of Manito United Methodist Church, joining in the early 1950’s, when they arrived in Spokane. After Bob’s passing in 1998, Donna became more active at her church: choir member for 10 years, volunteering for many church functions, and enjoying membership in UMW. Donna was blessed to be an active part of her granddaughter’s lives. Grandma was always there for every event/program. As her granddaughters become older, Donna shared her love of Broadway with them by taking them to her favorite shows. Donna is pre-deceased by her husband, Bob; her parents; and her brothers and their wives, Paul and Audrey Erickson, and Roy and Bonnie Erickson. She is survived by her beloved son, Donald (Bonita); her granddaughters who she loved and supported in every way, Megan Davis and Mariah Holm; her special great-granddaughter, Kaylie Davis; and five nephews and their families. A memorial celebration of Donna’s life will be held at her church, Manito United Methodist, 3220 S Grand Blvd, Spokane, WA 99203 on Friday, May 18th, 2018 at 11:00 a.m., Rev. Mark McMurray officiating, with fellowship following. Private entombment preceding at Fairmount Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children.
