Our dad, Edwin Glyn Harris, 101 and 7 months of Spokane, WA. passed away on October 14, 2024.
Dad was born on March 26, 1923, in Stockton-on Tees, County Durham, ENGLAND. He attended Holy Trinity Boys School and later moved to Lampeter, WALES where he finished High School. He joined the Military Home Guard at the age of 16 in 1939, assigned to stop cars, checking I.D.’s for potential spies. In 1942, during WWII, he enlisted in the British Army, eventually serving in the 8th Royal Tank Regiment, 7th Armoured Division, also known as the “DESERT RATS”.
After the war he moved to Birmingham, England where he worked as a bus driver for the Midland Red, driving-double decker buses. This was where he met his beloved wife of 50 years, Pauline.
Dad moved to Spokane, WA. In the late 1950’s, along with his parents, sister Peggy, and best friend Pat. He continued his career as a bus driver working for the Spokane Transit Authority for the next 30 plus years.
Dad took great pride in remodeling the house and building a junior Olympic size swimming pool. He loved to host parties in his home and entertain friends. Some of dad’s quirky sayings were: “diddle-diddle dumpling”, “just to show there’s no ill feeling”, and “doomed”. He liked to share his ability to pronounce the Welsh town, “Llanfairpwllgwyngylgogerychwyrndrobwlllantysiliogogogoch”. Dad was very fortunate to be able to travel back to ENGLAND many times over the years to visit family and friends.
Dad is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Annie Harris, and his wife Pauline Harris. He leaves behind his sister Peggy Lang, children David Harris, Linda Watts, Carol Stone, Dawn Millard, sister in law Debra Waters, brother in law Tom Waters, six grandchildren, his dog Pearl, and his life-long best friend, Pat Kane (Muldoon).
Dad will be deeply missed, and his legacy will forever be cherished by all who knew him. A Celebration of Life will be held in November to honor dad and a time to share stories with family and friends.
