Ida Elizabeth Smiley (Yancer) was born on March 2, 1936 in Saginaw, Michigan to Frank E & Erna A.A. Yancer (Salesky). The family moved our west in 1941, settling first in Metaline, Washington. After a number of years in and around Wenatchee, the family arrived in Spokane in April of 1948.
She met her future husband, Jack C Smiley, at the Milk Bottle Ice Creamery on West Garland in 1950. They married on April 28, 1956 and raised their 3 children in and around Seattle and Spokane until finally moving "into town" in 1967. As a mostly stay-at-home-mom, she was well known for her cooking, baking, and ability to "whip something up" for any of the many friends that often stopped by to visit or play cards.
After Jack retired they moved to the farm in Elk, Washington where they lived happily until Jack's death on April 17, 2015. After some debate, Ida and daughter Leann each sold their homes and moved to Deer Park, Washington.
Ida is survived by sons: Robert Smiley (Charlene) of Cheyenne, WY, and Dennis Smiley (Frances) of Spokane, WA; her sole-caregiver and daughter Leann Smiley; grandchildren: Cory Smiley (Shawna), Ami Cass (Cy), and Misty Smiley; great-grandchildren: Calli & Caison Cass, Jackson, Jameson and Morgan Smiley, Mateo Baca and Ayla Sheehan.
A memorial service will be held at 10am on Saturday, June 8 at Riplinger Funeral Home.
