SOWL, Leila “Winnie” (Age 95) – Winnie passed away on May 28, 2018. She was born in Wenatchee, WA in February 1923 to Otto and Eva Garrison. She also lived in Moses Lake, WA and Butte, MT while growing up. After high school she moved to Spokane and went to work at Galena Air Depot doing radio repair and installation in war planes. She met the love of her life, Wally Sowl in 1943. They were married 72 years when he passed in 2015. Winnie and Wally had three children, Byron, Jerry and Patty that were raised at their wonderful Newman Lake home. Winnie was preceded in death by her husband, Wally; her parents; brother, Richard; and sisters, Donna Lee, Billie, Susan, Beryl and Vivian. She is survived by sons, Byron Sowl, Jerry Sowl (Maki); and daughter, Patty Pohle (Fred); 9 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren. Winnie was active in Grange (Newman Lake and Colville), Cub Scouts, 4-H and community service. She loved painting, gardening, swimming, camping, hunting and fishing. Best of all she loved sharing those interests with all the generations of grandchildren. Many beautiful memories will be cherished of “nature walks”, The Bunny Trail, baking bread, canning, art of all kinds, picking huckleberries and mushrooms, camping, wonderful swim days at the pool, and love of nature. She will be greatly missed by all whose lives she touched. A special thanks to the staff and caregivers at Colonial Court Assisted Living and Kindred Hospice. They enriched her life (and her families) with their loving compassion and care. There will be a family celebration of life this summer, where Winnie will join Wally in their resting place, “In the Garden”.
