Marie A Krebs

January 26, 1925 — January 20, 2022

Marie was born as Marie Sand on January 26, 1925 in Colgan, North Dakota to Joe and Ella Sand. She was one of 8 siblings, Emery Hanson, Archie Hanson, Kermit Hanson, Rodella Hanson Larson, Kenneth Sand, Jeanne Sand Griffith and Adrienne Sand Hattel. Marie grew up in Crosby, North Dakota and remembered riding to her one-room schoolhouse by horse and buggy. She later attended business college in Williston. In 1950 she met and married Albert (Bud) Krebs in Coeur d’Alene. She says she couldn't say no to those beautiful blue eyes! Marie was a loving and selfless wife and mother, a hard worker and a great homemaker. She was very active in church and school activities. She enjoyed sharing her gifts of hospitality and creativity with others. She enjoyed sewing, painting, decorating, crafting, and cooking. She was famous for her birthday cakes and her killer lemon meringue pie! Once the kids were school-age, Marie went to work as the bookkeeper for Inland Audio Visual. In 1964, Bud and Marie built a cabin on Lake Coeur d’Alene, which was a bit surprising, since neither Bud or Marie knew how to swim! The kids and grandkids made many wonderful memories there, including Marie’s famous Ebelskiver breakfast, horseshoes on the beach, boat rides, awesome thunderstorms, Monopoly marathons, and even ice skating one year when the bay froze over. Marie loved and enjoyed her grandchildren, and later, her great grandchildren, and took advantage of every opportunity to be with them. Shortly after retirement, Bud and Marie served as short-term missionaries to Honduras, providing practical help wherever needed. And they enjoyed “wintering” and reconnecting with friends and relatives in Arizona and Hawaii. Marie has been a member of First Presbyterian Church since 1985, and was active in women’s ministries. She especially enjoyed working at the annual rummage sale and Jubilee Marketplace, always behind the scenes, never wanting the limelight. We would like to thank the staff at Legacy Gardens for the incredible care they provided, filled with love and grace. Although her last few years have been a challenge with the increasing inability to communicate, her sweet spirit, surprising wit and love still shined through. Marie went to be with her Lord on January 20, 6 days before her 97th birthday. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Krebs, and her son Kerry Brooks. She is survived by her daughter Kandy Gore and son Kendall Krebs, as well 6 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held later in the spring. We love you Mom, Gramma Marie! Our time with you has been a gift. You have blessed us beyond measure!
