BROWN, Myrtle (Stermer)- peacefully passed away on February 19,2022 at the age of 97. Myrtle was a devoted wife, mother, grandma and great-grandma. Born in North Dakota, to Rudolph and Millie Stermer, Myrtle had four brothers and a sister, the family moved to Ellensburg where she attended and graduated Ellensburg High School, and met her husband, Dallas Brown. They were married 1943 and moved to Spokane in 1949. Myrtle worked for Fidelity Savings & Loan for many years, however her dream was to become a teacher. With a lot of hard work, she was able to complete that dream in the spring of 1971, after attending night school at Whitworth and EWU as a full-time student to obtain her teaching degree. Her teaching career began the fall 1971 with Medical Lake School District, eventually retiring after 19 years of service. The importance of education was foremost all of her life. Myrtle was active in Daughters of the Nile, volunteered for the Shriners Hospital and Colbert Elementary after retirement. Love of family was priority, she and Dallas had 66 wonderful years together, after Dallas passed, she was surrounded by her survivors, daughter & son-in-law, Yvonne & Russ Tavares, grandson Jay Tavares, granddaughter Shannon Montague (Chris) her 6 great-grandchildren, Noah, Lindsey, Katie, Claire, Lauren, and Bennett, and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held at Riplinger Funeral Home at 4305 N Division Spokane WA 99207 on March 25,2022 at 11:00am.
