GEHRIG, Roger L. (age 75) – Roger died July 22nd at his home following a sudden, devastating illness. He was born Oct. 9, 1945 in Salt Lake City, the only child of Raymond C. and Letha T. Gehrig. A Vietnam era Veteran, he established his home in Spokane in 1969 after being stationed at FAFB as a Survival School Instructor. Following his discharge, he served as a Spokane Police Officer for over 26 years, then as a Court Security Officer at the Federal Courthouse. He attended Whitworth University, earning his B.S. and M.S. degrees. He then commuted to the Pullman Campus of WSU in pursuit of his PhD, all while continuing to work full time as a Police Officer. A 50-year 32 Degree Mason, he was a member of Leonard Wood Lodge #105 in the Philippine Islands, North Hill Lodge #210 in Spokane, Spokane Valley Scottish Rite Bodies, DeMolay Legion of Honor, Royal Order of Scotland, Jesters, and El Katif Shrine. He was an Emeritus Member of Shriners Hospitals for Children, Past Potentate of El Katif Shriners, and Worshipful Master of North Hill Lodge #210. He was a member of Northwood Presbyterian Church, where he served as a Deacon and as an Elder. A kind, soft-spoken, gentle man with a wry sense of humor, Roger was an excellent judge of character. He and Luanne loved to travel and especially enjoyed Russia, Scotland, Italy, Ireland and Hawaii. Roger is survived by his wife of 54 years, Luanne; son, Raymond; daughter, Tonya; grandchildren, Ryan and Allison; and his walking buddy Rowdy. A public Graveside service with Military Honors and interment will be held on Saturday, August 7th, 2021 at 10:30 AM at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery, Spokane. Following that same day at 2:00 PM, a public Memorial Service with Masonic Honors will be held at the El Katif Shrine Event Center, 7217 W Westbow, Spokane, WA 99224. Refreshments following.
