Rose “Susy” Mary Harney (née Haverkamp) passed away on Friday, February 3rd at the age of 75, surrounded by family and close friends Kathy, Tami, and Deanna.
Rose is survived by her husband, Dwayne Harney; her three daughters, Laura Utter, Beth Henson, and Jeanette Harney; sons-in-law Jeff Utter and Jeff Henson; grandchildren Aaron, Evan, Logan, Nathan, Megan, Lily, and Tucker; three sisters and two brothers.
She was preceded in death by Pop Aloysius “Bud” Haverkamp and Mom Kathryn Haverkamp, son David Harney, and two brothers.
Rose was born on December 27th, 1947 in Ritzville, Washington. Her early years were spent in Sprague, moving to Spokane at age nine. She graduated from Shadle Park High School in 1966 and immediately joined the U. S. Army, spending most of her 3-year career in Chicago, Illinois.
Rose returned to Spokane after a 6-month solo journey to Israel, followed by Kinman Business University.
Rose and Dwayne met in 1972 (despite sharing a home room in High School) and wed on May 18, 1973, and enjoyed a marriage spanning nearly 50 years. And to think, the priest said it wouldn’t last!
Her 21 year career with District 81 began in 1989 at Arlington Elementary, retiring at Roger’s High School in 2010. Retirement hobbies included travel, reading, gardening, puzzles, and spending time with fur babies Kandi and Toby.
A funeral is scheduled for 1:00 pm on Friday, February 10th at Washington State Veterans Cemetery (21702 W. Espanola Rd., Medical Lake WA 99022) with a Tea Party for Rose, beginning at 2:30 pm at the Lilac Services for the Blind building (1212 N. Howard St., Spokane WA 99201). All are welcome to attend and celebrate Rose’s life.
