Sanford Clay McClanahan

SANFORD (SANDY) , Passed away unexpectedly on December 30, 2020 in Spokane, Washington. Sandy was born on January 12th, 1928 in Maryville, TN to Delmar & Bernis McClanahan. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force and had a long career with IBM and Simplex. Sandy was an avid fisherman and having been raised on a farm willingly became an excellent gardener who readily shared his expertise with everyone. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. He will be dearly missed. Sandy is survived by his wife, Patty Housam McClanahan, with whom he found loving companionship during the last 10 years of his life, his children Sandra Pass (Joe), Cathy Smith (Kevin), Pamela Gay, Dennis McClanahan, and Debra Fountain (Jerry), six stepchildren, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers Eugene McClanahan of Clinton, TN, Ray McClanahan (Trudy) of Taylors, SC and sisters Ruth Branton of Walland, TN, Delsie Milsaps, Faye Bowlin, and June Hall of Maryville, TN. Sandy was predeceased by his parents, his sister Nora Ann Pickens, his son-in-law Larry Gay, his wife of 57 years and the mother of his 5 children, Drucilla Borunda McClanahan, and his beloved dog Buttons. There will be a viewing on Thursday January 7, 2021 from 2:00-4:00 PM at Riplinger Funeral Home 4305 N. Division, Spokane, WA. A private family graveside service will be held on Friday January 8, 2021 at Fairmount Memorial Park.
