Yvonne Amend went home on December 27, 2018, at the age of 95. She was born inSeattle, Washington and spent her childhood years in the area. She graduated at thetop of her class in 1940 from Chehalis High School. She then attended PacificUniversity where she met her husband, Dexter Amend. Dexter and Yvonne weremarried in 1942.Most of Yvonne’s life was spent in Spokane, Washington where she and Dexter raisedtheir family. Yvonne was active in the Spokane County Republican party and served aschairman on more than one occasion. She and Dexter were active members in theOpportunity Presbyterian church where she held many leadership roles including;Elder, Sunday school teacher, choir member, and high school youth group leader.Through all these activities the thing that she was most active and passionate aboutwas raising her family. She was always a very vocal supporter of their many school andcommunity activities.Yvonne had the innate ability to make sure that everyone felt welcomed in her home.She welcomed anyone who was in need of a safe and caring home, and her passionand concern for the needs of others was one of her greatest strengths. This traitcarried on even after her 6 kids had moved on from the home. She took on addedroles of helping Dexter grow his practice and taking care of her many grandchildren.Her support and love for all things that her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids didnever waned throughout her life. Whether it was showing up to a sporting event,concert or providing dinner at a moment’s notice for someone in need of good adviceand a listening ear, she was always available.Through all Yvonne’s life, whether easy times or hard, she was devoted to God, herhusband, and her family. She worked hard, loved fiercely and shared abundantly. Shehas been welcomed into the arms of her Father and has joined the multitude praisingand enjoying her new home.Yvonne leaves behind her husband of 76 years, Dr. Dexter Amend, her children; Dexter& Gail Amend, Harry & Sandy Amend, George & Becky Amend, Robin & Debbie Amend,Lynne & Rick Piper, and Jim & JoLynn Amend, 15 grandchildren, and 18 greatgrandchildrenall of whom will miss her quick wit, loving hugs, and amazing love.In her final days Yvonne was taken care of by amazing people, mainly Sue,thank you for showing so much love and taking such great care of our mom.A “Celebration of life” will be held at the Foothills Community Church onForker Rd. on May 18, 2019 at 1:00 PM in the afternoon.“Our mommer was a bomber, that’s our mommer.”
